LOTUS RENAULT E21
As it`s predecessor the Lotus Renault E21 was one of the best cars of the whole Grand Prix season also in 2013. The car in the traditional JPS black & gold livery is named after the town of the Lotus F1 team`s headquarters in Enstone being formerly known as the Toleman, Benetton and Renault facilities. Kimi Raikkonen won the 2013 season opener, the Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne, followed by many podium finishes throughout the whole year. In the middle of the season, when Formula One`s standard tyre supplier Pirelli switched back to the 2012 casing design still holding on the 2013 compound (this decision was made for safety reasons after a series of tyre explosions), Lotus reacted by using a ten centimetres longer chassis for the E21. That was done to compensate possible handling deficits caused by the tyre modifications not planned in the design phase of the E21. The car was generally very smooth to the tyres, one of the most important reasons for this racing car being so successfull. The passive DRS system of the E21 was supplied with two addtional air intakes beside the Renault engine`s airbox above the car`s cockpit.
